saxxxxon asked: Your art is amazing! I want to become a tattoo artist one day. Congrats on your apprenticeship! are there any jobs to get at a tattoo shop that isn't an artist or apprenticing artist? along the lines of clerical work? I live in austin and want to be around shops as much as possible, but since im planning on moving in 6 months i dont want to pursue an apprenticeship yet. any advice?
Some shops have ‘shop girls’ or guys to answer phones, set appointments for the artists, welcome walk-ins, clean and take inventory. But it really depends on the tattoo shop. If you’re moving in 6 months, I say focus on developing your art/style. Draw everyday, read about tattoo artists, open yourself up to different art forms, study the mechanics of the tattoo machine etc. Get in touch w/the shops in the area you’ll be moving to…see if need a shop girl :). But also remember in the end, you want to be a tattoo artist. Don’t let people take advantage of you (especially male tattoo artists), be tough, grow a thick skin ;).
